Lots of karatekas hoped to win their qualifications for the Olympic Games in this Karate1 Lisbon but only three did. The Egyptian Elsawy, the Ukranian Horuna, the Italian Crescenzo and the Serbian girl Prekovic have succeeded to win their ticket.

-60kg : Crescenzo is qualified at the expense of Samdan

With his 3rd place at the Karate 1 Lisbon, the Italian Angelo Crescenzo confirms his previous advantage at the Olympic ranking. On his side, Eray samdan was out at the 3rd round, beaten by Naoto Sago. With his 1380 points behind, he cannot come back in the ranking. In final, Alpysbair wins the gold medal.

In his duel with the Brazilian Figueira, Ali Elsawy with his bronze medal gets his qualification for the Olympics. The Egyptian is the second -67kg qualified with France’s Steven Da Costa. For Figueira, who lost in the 1st round, it’s not over. He has a last hope with the Olympic qualification tournament. In final, Steven Da Costa wins 1-0 against Asian champion from Jordania, Almasatfa.

-75kg : Horuna gets his qualification for Tokyo

It’s official, with his bronze medal and Thomas Scott’s early loss, Stanislav Horuna will go to Tokyo for the Olympics. A true accomplishment for the Ukrainian. In final, Busa made a demonstration to beat the running World champion Asgari, 3-0.

-84 kg : Poorshab, a sour victory

In the final, Poorshab did not fight beacuse of the forfeit of Araga. But even if he won this Karate1, the Iranian should not see Tokyo in August. With the good performance of his compatriote Ganjzadeh in +84kg and Horne’s bronze medal, its the latter who should go at the Olympics.

+84 kg : Arkania can still hope to qualify by the ranking

He needed to win to hope for a direct qualification to Tokyo. On his birthday, Gogita Arkania won. Even if Horne and Ganjzadeh take a bronze medal, Arkania score more points and still has the possibility to qualify at the OG through a very good performance at the European championships. For Ganjzadeh, with his bronze medal, the qualification is almost OK.

Kiyuna and Quintero missing, the Turkish Ozdemir won his 1st title. The surprise of this week-end came from Switzerland’s Ujihara who played his first final in Karate 1,but he was unpowerful against the dynamic Turkish Ozdemir.

-50 kg : Tsukii wins her first Karate 1

The Philipean girl won a Karate 1 for the first time. After beating Recchia and Bahmanyar on Friday, she conclued her week-end with a great final and gets her 1st title. Other important fact, Recchia beats Bahmanyar 10-2, the French has came back on top in this competition.

-55kg : Messerschmidt can still hope

With the defeat of Wen Tzu-Yun in the 2nd round and her bronze medal, Germany’s Jana Messerschmidt has still a chance to qualify for the Olympics if she wins the European championships in Croatia. In the final, Terliuga wins another gold medal.

In Lisbon, Prekovic was on the flow. The 2018 World champion beat Heurtault 9-1 in semi-final and won 4-0 against Lotfy in the final. With this win, the Serbian girl will go to the OG.
