The first day of these 25th World karate championships organized in Dubai was punctuated between premieres, surprises and confirmations. Maria Torres Garcia (+68 kg), Youssef Badawy (-84 kg), Silvia Semeraro (-68 kg) and Dastonbek Otabolaev in -75kg will play their 1st world final. Gogita Arkania (+84 kg) and Irina Zaretska (-68kg) will try to claim a new world title.

From November 16th to 21th, Dubai should write a new chapter in karate history. After a successful Olympic Games, karate must renew itself and ride this wave.

Brazil’s Douglas Brose and Vinicius Figueira won a new continental title at the 2021 Panamerican championships held in Punta del Este from October 21-23. Canada’s Haya Jumaa, Chile’s Rojas and US Kokumai and Torres Gutierrez also won gold. On the other side, Kumizaki (Bra), Scott (US), Derafshipour (Can) failed to win a new title. All the results

She is certainly the biggest surprise of the Tokyo Olympics. At 23, the Bulgarian Ivet Goranova became Olympic champion by clearly dominating all the favorites (Ozcelik, Terliuga, Wen…). K Mix, c’est pour Karaté Mix, la version MMA du K. Son héraut ? Loïc Marty. Formé au Shotokan, ancien membre d’un Pôle Espoir Kata, il part à l’aventure à 18 ans aux US, pour « voir ». Il deviendra combattant professionnel de la Team Shamrock. Depuis son retour en France, il s’attèle à développer le Karaté Mix en alliant tradition et modernité, fondamentaux et renouveau, ce qu’il appelle la « continuité logique » de l’art martial. « Rien n’est créé. Tout se réinvente », développe-t-il dans son interview, entre autres choses.
